Step-by-Step Guide on How to Make Sweet Danish Pastry at Home from Scratch
Step #1
Take a large bowl and mix flour, sugar, and salt.
Step #2
Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter or finger.
Step #3
Keep Stirring the milk and egg together in a small bowl.
Step #4
It’s time to aff yeast and water. Add yeast and warm water together and keep stirring until the yeast is completely dissolved.
Step #5
Over the flour mixture, pour the warm milk and yeast mixture. Add egg, lemon, and almond extracts to the mix. For the next 3 minutes, keep stirring.
Step #6
Add the remaining flour, 1/2, and knead until the dough is elastic and firm. Cover and allow to double in size, 30 minutes to 1 hour, at room temperature.
Step #7
Place the dough on a plate, and knead it for 5 to 7 minutes or until it is elastic and smooth.
Step #8
Divide the dough and make it in half. Make a 14-inch square out of each part. One cold butter sheet should be placed over half of each dough square, offset to one side. The dough should then be folded over the butter sheet like a book cover. Using your fingers, firmly pinch the dough’s edges together.
Step #9
Get prepared to roll the dough. Here comes little mathematics. Keep each piece of dough to a 20×12-inch rectangle. Fold into thirds like a letter. One more time, repeat the rolling and folding. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes after wrapping in plastic.
Step #10
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Give a square shape by cutting the dough. Put some fruit preserves in the middle. Create a diamond shape by folding the two opposite corners over the middle.
Step #11
Take a baking tray and spread a baking sheet. Keep the Danish on the plate and wait for the next 30 minutes at room temperature until they double in size.
Step #12
Set your oven by preheating it to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Step #13
Apply egg wash to the pastries edges.
Step #14
Bake for the next 15 minutes until the danishes become golden brown.
Step #15
Enjoy your sweet danish pastry with your family.
